Africa Aid Announces Agricultural Microlending Program in Buduburam Refugee Settlement

In keeping with Africa Aid's commitment to create innovative, sustainable foreign aid programs, Africa Aid and SHIFSD are teaming up to create the Microlending for Agricultural Production (MAP) Program, with the first loan cycle beginning Summer 2008.

Not only will MAP help stimulate the economic empowerment of local women farmers within the Buduburam Refugee Camp by providing initial startup funds and agricultural inputs, it will also provide food products for our currently operating School Lunch Program (SLP), replacing the food assistance currently supplied by Africa Aid and promoting project self-sustainability. To encourage cross-cultural community partnership, Africa Aid is also working with dedicated UCSD students and professors to assist with project development and implementation.

For more information about MAP, look for an update in our Economic Empowerment section of the website soon!

Africa Aid School Lunch Program (SLP) Update

Africa Aid's School Lunch Program (SLP) continues to grow as many new volunteers have been actively working on its innovative programming. Current development follows an initial pre-assessment of the health and wellness of the refugee children enrolled in the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) alongside new plans for additional health changes in the school facilities and cooking practices.

Africa Aid will also begin a seminar class at the University of California, San Diego to create new curriculum that directly speaks to the needs highlighted in the initial assessment. This seminar will be dedicated to creating high-quality learning experiences that engage students while they receive their lunches and encourage them to spread their new knowledge beyond the classroom walls.

This exciting time in Africa Aid's education branch is made possible by the efforts of those who volunteer and donate to the program. If you would like to contribute to this exciting endeavor please purchase a t-shirt, buy textbooks though our portal, or donate though our website.
