Africa Aid Donates Over $89,000 of Rehabilitation Medical Devices to Africa

Africa Aid partners with DJO and Direct Relief International to deliver medical devices to hospitals in need

SAN DIEGO, California - June 13, 2007 - Africa Aid is proud to announce it's Physical Rehabilitation and Education Program (PREP), an innovative foreign aid program that will provide rehabilitation medical devices to impoverished African communities. PREP commenced on June 12th, 2007, with the delivery of over $89,000 of new medical devices to our distribution partner Direct Relief International.

Donated products include rigid knee braces, splints, compression dressings, and soft goods to prevent injury, treat chronic conditions, and aid in recovery after surgery or injury. These medical devices will be delivered to countries across Africa, based upon orthopedic hospitals requests for aid. To ensure that all product donations reach those who need it most, Africa Aid is a proud partner of Direct Relief International, who has consistently received top national honors for both efficiency and effectiveness.

All products were donated to Africa Aid by DJO, a global medical device company specializing in rehabilitation and regeneration products for the orthopedic and spine markets. DJO has pledged future product donations to Africa Aid over the course of 2007. Using PREP as a model, Africa Aid is currently working with students from UCSD Medical School to plan a nationwide education campaign that will mentor medical students through the process of obtaining and then distributing medical supplies in third-world countries.
