The programs of Africa Aid are named using words taken from local
African language and culture. Project titles represent characteristics
or ideals necessary to achieve sustainable development in African
communities.
"Aya", meaning fern, is an Adinkra symbol that represents
perseverance, resourcefulness, and the ability to endure hardship. Adinkra
symbols and their names derived from the Twi language can be traced back to
the Akan people in Ghana.
Linking the local
San Diego
community with an impoverished African community will bring the unbelievably large
problems of Africa back to a manageable community level, and in the process unite
San Diego towards a single humanitarian cause.
San Diego is an ideal candidate for Africa Aid's
pilot program, selected for its status as a technological hub, which is complemented by a
vast educational network and an active nonprofit community.
