Africa Aid Assessment and Action Team Journey to Buduburam

Africa Aid has successfully fundraised and dispatched an Assessment and Action Team to the Buduburam Refugee Settlement in Ghana. Clean water sources were determined to be a top priority as no running water was present in Buduburam, and water-borne illness and high saline prohibited residents from drinking groundwater sources.

Working with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Africa Aid gathered extensive water sample data from various locations on the settlement and presented the data to corporations in the San Diego area. With committed corporate financial and engineering team support, Africa Aid plans on implementing water projects into engineering design courses at the University of California San Diego, allowing students and faculty to create water filtration system for use with existing boreholes in the Buduburam Settlement.

A Clean Source of Water for the Refugee Community

International aid organizations World Vision and Point Hope are currently working to pipe water into the Buduburam Refugee Settlement in Ghana. A dependable clean water source will allow for a healthier community, increase sanitation, and decrease reliance on expensive delivered drinking water.

United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has pledged their support to Africa Aid by providing statistical, numerical, and visual data and research on water and education programs in Buduburam. UNHCR established the Buduburam Liberian Refugee Settlement in 1990 and continued to provide support to Buduburam as it developed into a permanent settlement during the 14-year Liberian civil war.
